What is Qigong?

Qigong (pronounced chee kung) is a self-healing art that originated in ancient China.  It combines gentle, rhythmic movement, self-massage, self-acupressure, focused attention, visualization, and meditation.  Qi (also known as ch'i) means “vital energy,” and gong means “skill through practice.”  So Qigong practice cultivates our vital life energy to maintain health and bring harmony to body, mind, and spirit.  The movements are soft, easy, and mindful.  The practice is relaxing yet rejuvenating.
What are the benefits?

Qigong can reduce stress, increase vitality, enhance the immune system and the body's ability to heal itself, improve cardiovascular and respiratory function, and balance the lymphatic system.  The body's energy (qi) flows throughout a system of circuits called meridians and energy centers called dantians. Qigong practice helps to cleanse and purify the energy and allow it to flow freely to support all our vital life functions.  Qigong promotes physical healing, mental peace and clarity, and reconnection to your spirit.
What do I wear?

Qigong is performed mostly standing, so you might want to wear warm, comfortable clothing.  Weather permitting, Lori's home class will be held outside.  Dressing in layers is recommended. You may practice in socks or bare feet indoors and shoes or bare feet outdoors.

SESSIONS
Master Wan Su-Jian of Beijing, China
Lori Furbush is a certified Level II Qigong Instructor (350 hours)  with the National Qigong Association, specializing in Medical Qigong, Traditional Chinese Medicine Basics, and Advanced Daoist Meditation and Studies.  She pursues continuing studies under Daoist Priest Michael Rinaldini (Dao Li-Chang) of Sebastopol, California, and Master Wan Su-Jian of Beijing, China.  In the summer of 2008, she will travel to China for advanced studies with several high level qigong masters.
Qigong has a rich history, rooted in the Daoist philosophy of flowing in harmony with the Dao (the Way).  The Way of the universe is cyclical, rather than linear.  To follow the Dao is to flow with the natural cycles of creation and destruction, including life's "ups and downs."  Qigong practice promotes clarity and stillness in our daily life and brings us back into harmony and utter balance between the opposing concepts of yin and yang.  Where there is balance, there is health, vitality, even immortality.

We can meet regularly for private instruction or meet once or twice to create a session designed especially for you to be done at home on your own.  This process involves an in-depth health questionnaire and a hands-on assessment of your energy balance using acupressure points to determine the appropriate Qigong forms for you.
