Progressing in yoga is not about doing a stronger asana (posture) practice or performing the poses "better" than someone else.  There is no perfect pose.  Yoga is a process, not a product.  It is a path with no end, no goal.  Advancing your yoga practice involves the mind and the spirit, more than the body.  A beginner compares, judges, and fidgets, fearful of connecting to the true self.  A seasoned yogi maintains a smooth breath, a quiet mind, and a joyful spirit while practicing asana.  This is what enables the body to go further toward difficult poses.  But letting go of that goal is the only way to progress toward it.  Enjoy the moment, enjoy the path.

"A yogi (male yoga practicioner) or yogini (female yoga practitioner) can measure their progress by how much peace they are experiencing in life.  Peace of mind is disturbed by finding fault with others and with external things...Feel your connectedness more than your separateness with all, cultivate the perfection of relationships.  Let go of all selfish petty desires.

If you are fixated on doing this practice for small selfish reasons, you will most likely stay the same - bound in old patterns of what you can or cannot do.  Let go and offer all of your efforts to something more than the limitations of your past.  Offer your efforts to limitless possibility."
